Here is a listing of resources and information that can assist in understanding services and programs available to individuals with disabilities and their families:

Massachusetts Department of Developmental Services:

The Department of Developmental Services provides supports to children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities including Autism Spectrum Disorder. Supports are designed to promote meaningful participation and inclusion in all aspects of community life. Services are provided through contracts with non-profit agencies and through two self-directed service options.

Massachusetts Bureau of Transitional Planning:

Massachusetts Chapter 688 of the Acts of 1983, also known as the “turning 22” law, provides a planning process for young adults with severe disabilities as they leave special education and transition into the adult service system

Mass Health

Massachusetts Vocational Rehabilitation Program

he Vocational Rehabilitation Program helps job seekers with disabilities obtain and maintain a job. Vocational rehabilitation helps people with physical, cognitive, intellectual or mental health conditions manage the modern workplace.

Federation for Children with Special Needs

The Federation’s mission is to provide information, support, and assistance to parents of children with disabilities. We value families and are committed to serving them.

Social Security (SSI and SSDI)

SSI provides monthly cash payments to help meet the basic needs of children who have a physical or mental disability or who are blind. If you care for a child or teenager with a disability, and have limited income and savings or other resources, your child may be eligible for SSI.

Massachusetts Department of Transitional Assistance (DTA )

The Department of Transitional Assistance (DTA) offers programs for individuals and families to help them meet their basic needs. DTA has three programs that provide help to children and families: the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Transitional Aid to Families with Dependent Children (TAFDC), and Emergency Aid to the Elderly, Disabled, and Children (EAEDC).

Massachusetts Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program ( HVAC):

The Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program (HCVP) increases affordable housing choices for very low-income households by helping families pay a portion of their rent in privately owned housing. 

Insurance Resource Center for Autism and Behavioral Health:

Resources for consumers, providers, clinicians, employers, and educators on issues related to medical insurance for autism and behavioral treatments.

South Shore Autism Center

The mission of SSAC is to be a warm, welcoming place where children with autism receive high quality ABA services, and where their families join a community of support, knowledge, and care.

The RIDE

The RIDE paratransit service provides door-to-door, shared-ride public transportation to people who can’t use the subway, bus, or trolley all or some of the time due to temporary or permanent disability.
