A Life of Heart, Energy, and Generosity
The South Shore Support Services family is deeply saddened by the passing of John Burt, loving husband of our Executive Director, Mary Burt, devoted father to Kevin and Tim, and one of our agency’s most passionate champions and volunteers.
Married to Mary for 46 years after meeting as high school sweethearts, John was Mary’s rock and biggest supporter. He believed wholeheartedly in the mission of creating an inclusive, empowering community for individuals of all abilities. John was especially proud of his son Tim’s accomplishments and work with South Shore Support Services, and he brought that genuine enthusiasm into everything he did for our community. Whether he was helping plan events, encouraging friends to get involved, or simply striking up a conversation with someone new, John made it his mission to tell the story of the agency and the people it serves.
A Man of Many Passions
John brought an unmatched joy and energy to life:
- Dedicated Professional & Educator: A former attorney with the IRS Estate Tax Division for 24 years and a beloved adjunct professor at Quincy College, Eastern Nazarene College, and Suffolk University, John loved teaching and lifting others up.
- Avid Outdoorsman & Athlete: Whether skiing down mountain slopes across the globe, golfing at Widow’s Walk, sailing on the Lazy Snoozin’, playing senior baseball, or leading local hiking groups, John embraced every adventure to the fullest.
- Community Connector: John had a rare gift for making friends anywhere and everywhere. He truly loved bringing people together.
